ABI Affordable Housing
Bowman Street Affordable Housing
The Bowman street apartment offers sustainable housing for individuals who require support with accessing attainable living accommodations.
This unique property is well suited to offer housing for five (5) individuals in a permanent housing setting. The original home was built 150 years ago and has had a number of additions over the years. It is designated as a duplex as the home has been split into two completely separate apartments, with two bedrooms on the first floor and three on the second floor. There are four separate entrances, and private gardens and patios on each side of the home as it is a corner lot. It has two full kitchens, living rooms and laundry rooms along with three bathrooms. The lot is large and private. Each tenant has their own individual bedroom with locked access.
Through this housing environment, we are able to also provide specialized supports to the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) population. The structure is independent living but with added weekly support from an Outreach Worker (Community Facilitator) to work on personal goals. Each client will be provided with 2-4 hours per week of Outreach support. The Community Facilitators can support tenants with their individual goals and with any housing related needs. After hours on-call support is available as needed. The tenants who reside in this housing location are able to live independently, yet do have challenges and obstacles as a result of their ABI. This little bit of extra support will ensure that they maintain their housing.
Within the housing environment, a tenant council has been created to support and implement house rules, schedules, a conflict management system, and a system for complaints.
**Please note – an ABI diagnosis is not required to be eligible for Bowman Street Affordable Housing but access to in-home supports through a Community Facilitator is only available to the ABI population in this housing environment.
